Abby O Sullivan - Costume Design
With a background in experimental art and fashion, Abby O’Sullivan’s costume designs are marked by an ability to mix realism with a progressive impact. Selected to show her FIT collection at Iceland’s fashion week when she was just 21, O’Sullivan kicked off a career in New York—designing her own line, Keeno-Calder, as well as styling for iconic brands like Lola Ehrlich, and for performers like the renowned ‘BOX NYC’ drag artist Rosewood. O’Sullivan’s first foray into film was for the 2008 Academy Award-nominated feature, Frozen River. Since then, her versatile designs have appeared in a diverse range of projects, including Blumhouse Entertainment’s Sinister (2012), Mississippi Grind (2015), Jordan Peele’s Keanu (2016), Captive State (2019), Out of Blue (2018) and the 2016 futuristic sci-fi feature Equals—which required all original costume designs, with manufacturing sourced across three countries.
O’Sullivan views costuming as a collaboration between the actor, director, and designer. Whether working on an independent period piece, a dystopian sci-fi, or an action-packed thriller, the Los Angeles-based designer is passionate about building worlds and characters from cloth—crafting a look that is both original, yet immediately identifiable to the audience.
